Republican Jacob Ventura is running for the Senate seat held by Feeney, a former Foxboro selectman, which he lost during last year’s special election. He has resigned from his position as a statehouse aide to Rep. Steven Howitt, R-Seekonk, allowing him to personally seek campaign donations.

“It all comes down to who’s going to best represent the region up on Beacon Hill,” Ventura said. “Folks are happy with the Governor, who has supported me, and that will transcend into the Senate race.”

Ventura said the focus of his run for state senate is very much on how the state government can better support local communities, including increasing local aide for better transportation and roads, funding for public schools, better services for seniors and veterans and support for local fire and police personnel.

Aside from Foxboro, the seat serves Rehoboth, Norton, Mansfield, and half of Attleboro and Seekonk. It was previously held by James Timilty, who resigned to become Norfolk County treasurer.

The primaries will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 4, the day after Labor Day. Foxboro residents can vote at the Ahern Middle School from 7a.m. to 8 p.m.

The general mid-term election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 6.
